Batsar Lake Trek

Embarking on a Journey to Batsar Lake: A Tale of Friendship and Perseverance

On the 21st of July, 2023, a trio of friends—Shibli Ahsan, Furkan Rather, and myself—set out on an adventurous trek to Batsar Lake, nestled approximately 07 kilometers from Dubjan area of Shopian. As the morning sun began to rise at 07 am, we were filled with anticipation for the journey ahead.
Our first encounter was with the knowledgeable team from Animal Husbandry at Dubjan, who graciously shared the route details with us. With their guidance fresh in our minds, we embarked on the trail. About a kilometer in, the serene Sheepkour Meadow unfolded before us, where we met some shepherds. Their directions were simple yet vital: "Go straight until you find a Dokh atop the hill, then veer slightly to the right."
As we progressed, the meadows became increasingly steep, challenging our resolve. After covering 3 kilometers, we paused to rest, savoring tea and snacks amidst nature's embrace. The path ahead was daunting, and at one point, Furkan, overcome by fatigue, pleaded to return. But with the lake nearly within reach, I encouraged him, "Take a rest, my friend, for turning back is not an option now."
After a brief respite, we continued, the steep meadows stretching before us. We encountered a shepherd who, amidst the changing weather and onset of rain, assured us, "You are near the lake; climb this mountain, and you shall reach your destination." Donning our rain gear, we faced the mountain's challenge, our spirits lifted by the shepherd's words.

Upon reaching the summit and beholding the tranquil Batsar Lake, our hearts swelled with joy, and we chanted in unison, "Allahu Akbar!" The arduous trek culminated at the lake's edge around 2 pm, where we indulged in a well-deserved feast of Maggi noodles, basking in the picturesque view.
We spent an hour at the lake, capturing memories through photography and videography, before embarking on our return journey. The weather, ever fickle, shrouded us in fog, obscuring our trail. With head torches guiding our way, we navigated back to the base at Dubjan.
This trek to Batsar Lake was more than a physical challenge; it was a testament to friendship, determination, and the sheer will to embrace the unknown. It stands as our most challenging and rewarding trek to date.
